2023 LMT All-City High School Baseball Awards

The Laredo Morning Times announced its 2023 All-City high school baseball awards on Tuesday. The following players were named to the first and second teams, and Andrew De Leon of Alexander was named Player of the Year.

First Team

  • Pitchers: Andrew De Leon (Alexander), AJ Sanchez (United), JP Briseno (United South)
  • Catchers: Manuel Chaires (United), Brytton Clements (Alexander)
  • Infielders: Gael Quiroga (Alexander), Miguel Ruiz (Alexander), Hunter Smith (United), Bryson Saldana (United), Ciro Benavides (Alexander)
  • Outfielders: JT Torres (Alexander), Ty Gilbert (Belton-Honea Path), Mason Miller (Wren)
  • Utility: Blake Jones (Westside)

Second Team

  • Pitchers: LBJ's Adrian Huerta, United's Jerry Medina, Alexander's Miguel Rubio, United South's Arturo Garcia
  • Catchers: St. Augustine's Juan Pablo Gonzalez, Martin's Alan Ornelas
  • Infielders: Alexander's Josh Jones, United's Christian Hernandez, United South's Luis Franco, Alexander's JT Martinez, Martin's Ethan Salinas
  • Outfielders: United South's Brandon Garcia, Martin's Bryan Martinez, Cigarroa's Alan Flores
  • Utility: Cigarroa's Angel Leal

Player of the Year: Andrew De Leon, Alexander

De Leon, a senior, was a dominant force on the mound for the Bulldogs this season. He went 10-1 with a 1.04 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 71 innings pitched. He also hit .385 with 10 doubles, 7 home runs, and 39 RBIs.

De Leon is the first player from Alexander to be named Player of the Year since 2019. He is committed to play college baseball at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
