Cleveland Browns' Amari Cooper Exits Practice Early with Ankle Injury
BEREA, Ohio - Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper exited practice early on Monday after suffering an ankle injury.
The injury occurred during a scramble drill, when Cooper changed directions to get open for quarterback Deshaun Watson. He remained on the ground immediately after the injury and was treated by the team's trainers. Cooper was seen walking around on the field behind the team afterwards without a noticeable limp.
Coach Kevin Stefanski did not have an update on the severity of the injury after practice, but he said that Cooper would be evaluated further.
"I haven't gotten the full report. I'll update you guys tomorrow," Stefanski said.
Cooper is the Browns' top wide receiver and his absence would be a major blow to the team's offense. He had 86 catches for 1,114 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games last season.
The Browns are already dealing with some injuries at the wide receiver position. Rookie David Bell is battling a foot injury and undrafted rookie Isaiah Weston was recently waived with an injury designation.
The Browns open the season on September 8 against the Carolina Panthers.
