The LSU Tigers have had a long and storied history of producing great quarterbacks. In the last 10 years, they have had a number of talented signal-callers, including some who have gone on to have successful NFL careers.
Here is a list of the LSU quarterbacks who have started at least one game in the last 10 years, in order of when they started their first game:
- Joe Burrow (2018-19)
- Danny Etling (2016-17)
- Zach Mettenberger (2011-13)
- Jordan Jefferson (2008-11)
- Jarrett Lee (2008-11)
- Brandon Harris (2014-16)
- Anthony Jennings (2013-15)
- Max Johnson (2020)
- Myles Brennan (2020)
Joe Burrow is the most recent LSU quarterback to have a successful NFL career. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2019 and led the LSU Tigers to a national championship. He was then drafted first overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2020 NFL Draft. Burrow has had a great start to his NFL career, leading the Bengals to the Super Bowl in his second season.
Danny Etling was a solid quarterback for LSU, but he did not have the same level of success in the NFL. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Etling played in 10 games for the Patriots over two seasons.
Zach Mettenberger was a highly touted recruit out of high school, but he never lived up to his full potential at LSU. He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Mettenberger played in 18 games for the Titans over two seasons.
Jordan Jefferson was a two-year starter for LSU. He was not a highly touted recruit out of high school, but he developed into a solid quarterback for the Tigers. Jefferson was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He did not play in any NFL games.
Jarrett Lee was a two-year starter for LSU. He was a more mobile quarterback than Jefferson, but he was not as accurate. Lee was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He did not play in any NFL games.
Brandon Harris was a one-year starter for LSU. He was a highly touted recruit out of high school, but he did not live up to expectations. Harris was drafted by the New York Jets in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He did not play in any NFL games.
Anthony Jennings was a one-year starter for LSU. He was a dual-threat quarterback who was known for his running ability. Jennings was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He did not play in any NFL games.
Max Johnson and Myles Brennan are both recent LSU quarterbacks who have the potential to have successful NFL careers. Johnson was a two-year starter for the Tigers, and he led them to a 10-2 record in 2020. Brennan was a backup to Johnson in 2020, but he started the 2021 season. Both Johnson and Brennan have the potential to be NFL starters in the future.
