Norris explains Spanish Grand Prix FEAR following big change

Lando Norris is feeling apprehensive about the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix due to a change in the track layout. The McLaren driver recently finished ninth in Monaco, placing him 11th in the championship standings. The circuit in Catalunya has undergone a modification at the end of the lap, where a chicane has been removed, replacing it with two high-speed left-hand corners. Norris is excited about the challenge but acknowledges that it may negatively impact tire wear and strategy.

The removal of the chicane has generally been well received by the Formula 1 paddock. Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, expects it to be "fun," while Charles Leclerc anticipates a "big challenge." Among the current grid of 20 drivers, only Fernando Alonso has experience racing on the circuit without the chicane, winning the last race there in his title-winning season with Renault in 2006.

The strain on tires could be a crucial factor in the race, as the Catalunya circuit already features numerous fast and sweeping corners. Since the new layout has not been used in any F1 testing, drivers will face a steep learning curve. Norris admits uncertainty about what to expect during the race and speculates that it may lead to more one-stop or two-stop strategies. He looks forward to the event and is eager to see how it unfolds.
