Oakmont baseball thumps Woodland to win another championship under guru coach

Marton, a senior, was dominant on the mound. He retired the first 11 batters he faced and struck out the side in the first, second, and fifth innings. He walked one batter and hit another.
Oakmont jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Jack Smith and a sacrifice fly by Jake Smith. The Mustangs added four runs in the second inning on a two-run single by Marton, an RBI single by Jack Smith, and an RBI double by Jake Smith.
Oakmont added two more runs in the third inning on an RBI single by Marton and an RBI double by Jake Smith. The Mustangs scored their final two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Jack Smith and an RBI groundout by Jake Smith.
Jack Smith finished the game with three hits and three RBIs. Jake Smith had two hits and two RBIs.
Oakmont is now 25-5 overall. The Mustangs will play in the CIF Northern California Division IV playoffs on Tuesday.
Coach Paul Martinez has led Oakmont to four league titles and three section championships in his five years at the school. He is known for his innovative coaching style and his ability to get the most out of his players.
"I'm really proud of this group of guys," Martinez said. "They've worked hard all year and they deserve this championship."
Oakmont's victory is a testament to the team's pitching, defense, and timely hitting. The Mustangs have been one of the most dominant teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section all season and they are now the Division IV champions.
