Pace duo to miss England's one-off Test against Ireland
The upcoming one-off Test between England and Ireland, scheduled to commence on 1st June at Lord's, will witness the absence of two key pacers from the English side. Both James Anderson and Ollie Robinson have been ruled out of the Lord's Test against Ireland, although they are on track to regain fitness in time for the Ashes series.
James Anderson sustained a groin strain while representing Lancashire against Somerset, while Ollie Robinson experienced an Achilles tendon irritation during his participation for Sussex against Glamorgan in the County Championship. Despite their efforts, both pacers have been unable to recover sufficiently for the Lord's Test against Ireland. However, England remains optimistic about their availability for the first Ashes Test, set to begin on 16th June.
Brendon McCullum, the head coach of the English team, confirmed the injuries in an interview with Sky Sports. He mentioned that they are currently monitoring the niggling issues and expressed confidence in having a strong squad to choose from. McCullum stated that Anderson and Robinson should regain fitness in time for the first Ashes Test but clarified that they won't be available for the match against Ireland. He further emphasized the team's extensive depth and available options throughout the squad.
McCullum also provided an update on skipper Ben Stokes, expressing optimism about his return to bowling in the upcoming cricketing season. He highlighted Stokes' impressive progress, physical fitness, and positive demeanor within the team. As a vital leader, Stokes' energy and enthusiasm are invaluable. McCullum mentioned that they will closely monitor his condition and stated his belief that Stokes will contribute with his bowling during the summer, considering his exceptional skills as a world-class all-rounder. However, he also acknowledged that if Stokes is unable to bowl, the team will find alternative strategies to cope with the situation.
The England cricket team's schedule consists of a four-day Test against Ireland from 1st to 4th June, followed by the highly anticipated Ashes campaign against Australia, spanning from 16th June to 31st July.
